DTN COMMENTS: Some light business is taking place in parts of the North
at $294 to $295, $2 to $3 higher than last week's weighted average, basis
Nebraska. A little light trade has also been reported in parts of Kansas
and Texas at mostly steady money with yesterday's business. Many asking
prices remain firm around $295-plus in the North, and $184-plus in the
South.

Today's slaughter totaled 125,000 head, 7,000 greater than last week, and
2,000 more than a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on both
live (up 145 to 267) and feeder (up 165 to 215) contracts. Beef cutouts
are expected to close mixed with light to moderate box movement.
